Nervous about seeing the dentist? We understand. Contact All Smiles today to learn how we can make your visit more comfortable.
Dental anxiety is incredibly common. It’s understandable to feel nervous about visiting the dentist, and you’re certainly not alone if fear has kept you away. Many people put off dental visits, sometimes for months or even years, because of these anxieties. Unfortunately, delaying treatment often means that a small, easily manageable problem can turn into something much bigger, requiring more extensive, invasive, and costly procedures. We want to help you avoid that.
There are lots of reasons why people feel anxious about dental appointments. Perhaps you’ve had a negative experience in the past, or maybe you struggle to get numb with local anesthetic. The sights, sounds, and smells of a dental office can also trigger anxiety, and some people simply have naturally sensitive teeth. Sometimes, there’s no clear reason for the fear, and that’s okay. Whatever the cause, we want you to know that sedation dentistry can make a world of difference. With IV sedation, you’ll be deeply relaxed throughout your entire treatment. You won’t feel any pain, and you’ll likely have little to no memory of the procedure afterward. Your comfort and safety are our top priorities, and you’ll be continuously monitored to ensure you’re doing well.
At All Smiles, we’re dedicated to making your dental experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We’re fortunate to have our own in-house anaesthetist, Dr. Mohan, who is highly skilled in administering IV sedation safely and effectively. He will carefully assess your needs and ensure you receive the appropriate level of sedation.
Furthermore, our practice is fully equipped with state-of-the-art resuscitation facilities, so you can have peace of mind knowing that we’re prepared for any unlikely event. We understand your anxieties, and we’re here to help you get the dental care you need in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
If you choose sedation dentistry, we’ll use safe and proven techniques to help you relax. Our anesthetist will gently place a small IV line, through which relaxing medications will be administered. These medications work quickly to ease your anxiety and create a calm, comfortable state that we’ll carefully monitor throughout your entire appointment. It’s important to understand that this isn’t the same as general anesthesia you’d receive in a hospital. With IV sedation, you’ll breathe on your own, but you’ll be so relaxed that you likely won’t be aware of anything happening during your treatment, including getting numb. You may not even remember much about it afterward!
Once your procedure is complete, we’ll allow you to fully wake up in our recovery area. Because the effects of IV sedation can last for a few hours, it’s essential to have a friend or family member drive you home. You won’t be able to drive yourself.
Besides helping anxious patients feel more at ease, IV sedation offers some real practical benefits. It allows us to efficiently complete multiple procedures in a single visit, which can be much more convenient and comfortable for you than spreading them out over several appointments. Sedation is also a great option for patients with a sensitive gag reflex, which can sometimes make dental work challenging. And there are many other reasons why patients choose sedation – we’re happy to discuss your specific needs and determine if it’s the right choice for you.
At All Smiles, we’re dedicated to ensuring our patients feel comfortable and confident during their dental visits. A key part of this commitment is providing clear and thorough explanations of all procedures, helping to eliminate any anxieties about the unknown and empowering our patients to make informed decisions about their care.
